Customers flee Queensland Kmart after fire breaks out
Customers, including families with small children, have been evacuated from a Queensland shopping centre after flames erupted at a Kmart store.
It's believed the fire broke out in the baby's clothing section at the Logan Hyperdome about 1.30pm on Monday.
"We were just shopping and all of a sudden, this guy is screaming out 'fire, fire, fire' and we didn't know what was happening," one witness said.
"It started small and then it sort of flew up in the air," another added.
The Kmart store had been packed with families buying back-to-school supplies when the fire broke out, with staff ushering customers to nearby exits.
"The sprinklers came on and it actually made it worse," one witness said.
"There was ash everywhere and the roof was filled with black smoke, it was a feral smell too."
A spokesperson for Queensland Fire and Emergency Service said the fire was extinguished prior to their arrival.
Luckily, no one was injured in Monday's blaze, but a "quantity of property" inside the Kmart store has been destroyed.
Authorities fear the fire was deliberately lit, and are now investigating whether it's linked to another Kmart blaze from last week.
In last Thursday's fire, police believe kids lit a clothing rack on fire at the Kmart in Sunnybank Hills.
Security pictures from the Logan store have been seized with the investigation ongoing.
The Logan store remains closed, with other shops inside the Logan Hyperdome trading as normal.
