Would-be robber brings knife to a bat fight in Queensland shop

A would-be thief who tried to scare a convenience store owner in Logan, Queensland with a knife ended up getting the bigger fright.

When a not-so-friendly-man walked into the Friendly Grocer store and pulled a knife from his shorts demanding cash, the owner, Jimmy, grabbed his baseball bat.

“I said, “how can I help” (and) he take out his knife, so I turn around, get this bat,” he said.

As the 55-year-old continued to wave the bat, the would-be robber backed off, still holding the knife.

“I said get out, get out, and he ran away,” Jimmy said.

“He ran away just across the road. Maybe another car is waiting for him.”

Police are now looking for the man.

It is not the first time Jimmy has fought back during a robbery.

A few years ago he was threatened with a pair of scissors, so he picked up a kitchen knife and chased him out of the store.

When two people stole items earlier this year he gave chase, jumping over the counter and running into the car park.

Now Jimmy keeps a bat behind the counter.
