'Stolen' 4WD almost wipes vehicle off Queensland country motorway

A quick-thinking Sunshine Coast driver has escaped an extremely close shave, coming within centimetres of colliding head-on with an allegedly stolen 4WD travelling in the wrong lane.

Dashcam footage which appears to be taken from a truck in Queensland on November 20, at Lindsay Road, Buderim, shows a grey 2014 Land Rover Freelander appearing out of nowhere in the right hand lane to overtake the vehicle.

The risk-taking motorist ignores the unbroken double lines and attempts to dodge the truck, while a white sedan approaches at high speed.

The white vehicle swerves to the far left and drives along the side of the road while the 4WD driver dodges their way back to the right lane ahead of the truck.

The footage appeared on the Clayton's Towing Facebook page on Friday, with the caption, “Our driver couldn't read the rego quick enough, but hopefully the driver will see this and see how close they were to causing harm (or worse) to not just themselves but innocent people.”

Queensland police have since identified the Land Rover in the video as the same vehicle that was allegedly stolen from a Tewantin driveway, with registration number 865-VSW, along with a black 2009 Volkswagen Golf station wagon, with rego number 520-MXH.

The vehicles were taken between 10pm on November 6 and 5.45am on November 7, police said.
