Fire crew rescues Queensland girl from bedroom as home goes up in flames

A 12-year-old girl is in hospital with severe burns after her family home caught ablaze in the early hours Monday morning.

Police say an adult and two other children managed to escape the burning home around 3.30am at Monkland near Gympie.

Firefighters entered the house to save the third child trapped in her bedroom as flames engulfed the building.

Paramedics treated the girl at the scene before transporting her to Gympie Hospital.

Suffering severe burns and from smoke inhalation, she is expected to be airlifted to Brisbane, about 160 kilometres south when her condition stabilises.

Police and fire crews are inspecting the home to determine what sparked the fire.
