'They all just dropped to the gutter': Police, ambos distraught after toddler's death

Witnesses say police and paramedics were so distressed on finding a 21-month-old toddler dead inside a Queensland home they broke down sobbing in the gutter outside.

Police believe toddler Mason Lee died in 'suspicious circumstances' at the Caboolture home early on Saturday morning.

Mason's mother's ex-partner Andrew William O'Sullivan, 35, was questioned for 18 hours on Saturday helping police with their inquiries.

Neighbours have started a GoFundMe page for the family in the wake of the devastating news.

"Taken suddenly and far to soon from his loving family. A little ray of sunshine with infectious smile and a love of life.

"We are a group of neighbours that would like Mason to have the farewell he deserves. To help his mum to cope with her pain and grief.

The money raised will be used for Mason's funeral and other expenses for the family.

"The death of Mason should never have happened, an innocent little man taken from this world too early. We would like to see Mason given a funeral befitting his happy nature."
