Police storm unit to find armed man asleep after tense siege

A tense stand-off has ended peacefully after police stormed a home in Queensland where a man was armed with a gun.

SERT officers made the decision to storm the unit in the Ipswich suburb of Woodend when they hadn't heard from the man. When they went inside, they found he was asleep.

The siege started at 1am this morning after the man threatened two other men inside the unit.

A woman in her 30s was sent to hospital with with back and leg after police found her unconscious inside.

Police say the man is known to police and it's believe he and the woman are in a relationship.

An emergency situation was declared as officers blocked off Elizabeth Street in the early hours of the morning.

“We know he’s received some injuries. We are extremely reluctant to force entry... knowing he has possession of weapons,” Ipswich Inspector Keith McDonald told ABC radio.

“He’s just not co-operating with police, with negotiators.”

A domestic violence incident at around 8:30pm last night led to the siege.
