Semi-automatic shotgun among guns seized in police operation on the Gold Coast

Police in Queensland have seized a number of guns, including an illicit USAS semi-automatic shotgun, as part of an operation targeting a high-risk criminal group.

Targets of the operation included an alleged associate of the Black Uhlans motorcycle gang and other members of a criminal network on the Gold Coast.

Among the ten guns seized during the operation, two were illicit loaded handguns and one was the semi-automatic shotgun which is banned in Australia, police said.

Drugs were also uncovered, including 750grams of Ice, 16 litres of Fantasy, along with small amounts of cocaine, steroids and heroin.

False identifications including New South Wales drivers licenses, $93,440 in cash and $10,900 in counterfeit $50 notes were also found throughout the operation, according to police.

Operation North Hardwood wrapped up today following eight search warrants yesterday and 13 search warrants executed on April 20.

“This is a major win for the community and police in seizing 10 illicit firearms from the hands of serious criminals including loaded hand guns and banned weapons,” Taskforce Maxima Commander, Detective Superintendent Mick Niland said.

In total 17 people have been charged with 97 offences.

Yesterday, police arrested a 33-year-old man from Ephraim Island and alleged associate of the Black Uhlans OMCG on charges of drug trafficking and the supply of firearms.

On April 20 a 25-year-old was charged with a number of offences, including trafficking in dangerous drugs.
