Former kickboxer fights back after 'indecent assault' in Queensland

A former professional kickboxer turned triathlete has chased after a person who allegedly indecently assaulted her in Cairns last Thursday morning.

Renee Ker told 7News she was running on Lake Morris Road in Kanimbla at about 7.45am when someone approached her from behind.

"Basically he grabbed me somewhere that ladies should really not be grabbed," she alleges.

Ms Ker, 37, claims she then spun around to see a teenager on a bike who was trying to ride back down the hill again.

"I just took off after him, ran after him and sent him flying over his handle bars on the bike," Mr Ker said.

"Basically grabbed hold of him and there was a few colourful words that came out of my mouth about, you know, not touching women like that."

Ms Ker claims she held onto the alleged attacker and was going to call the police, but she didn't have her phone and the man then took off.

She says she was very angry about the alleged incident.

"I honestly just saw red, absolutely saw red," Ms Ker said.

The 37-year-old claims she reacted quickly because she wasn't wearing earphones and was aware someone was there.

It's believed the man left behind a hat, helmet and bike and police are now seeking public assistance to identify the owner of the items.

Police say they would urge people to consider their own safety before fighting back in a similar circumstance.

"Certainly she would have confidence in her own abilities and also how to keep herself safe in those situations. Other people may not have that same confidence," Senior Constable Heidi Marek said.
