Woman fighting for life following horror crash on Gold Coast

A woman is fighting for her life after her car crashed into a power pole on the Gold Coast.

The woman, who was alone in the car, suffered serious head injuries in the crash at Southport.

The 45-year-old lost control and hit a power pole.

The brutal impact of the crash split the car in half.

The back half of the Subaru ended up in the middle of the road, the wheels twisted and roof ripped off.

The front half of the vehicle flew into a ditch, obscured by trees.

The female driver lost control on Ferry Road just after 5am today.

Police were there within seconds as they came across the crash on their way back to the station.

Witnesses at the scene of the accident feared children were trapped inside the vehicle, however the driver was alone.

"You could see all of the teddy bears from the car that has just sort of blown everywhere," said one witness.

She was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition.

The road is notorious for high speed crashes however police won't speculate whether that was a factor.
