Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp teases fans

Pirates of the Caribbean star Johnny Depp whisked past fans

Pirates of the Caribbean fans braved the cold weather on Wednesday morning to catch a glimpse of the legendary Captain Jack Sparrow at Raby Bay.

Actor Johnny Depp happily waved to the crowds as his vehicle pulled up at the bay, ahead of a day of filming for the fifth installment of the movie franchise.

When he arrived, Depp tried to stop and talk to fans but was moved quickly towards a marine rescue boat by security guards.

However, the Hollywood heartthrob still cheekily engaged with the crowd as his minders escorted him past his eager fans and Sunrise reporter Michelle Tapper.

The A-list actor then stood at the back of the boat to wave goodbye to his fans, as he headed out to custom-made ship, the Dying Gull, for filming.

Crowds have grown significantly since Depp first appeared at the Raby Bay site on Tuesday morning.

The handful of fans that were there for his first appearance were lucky enough to talk photos with the star.

The public are thrilled to be seeing a much more approachable side of Depp, who has been reluctant to make public appearances in the past.

Earlier this month, his pet dogs Pistol and Boo were evicted from the country in a quarantine scandal that made headlines around the world.

The Yorkshire terriers, who were illegally smuggled into Australia, were forced to leave after Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce threatened to have them destroyed.

Depp is expected to return to the Volunteer Marine Rescue centre late this afternoon after work is completed on pirate ship the Dying Gull.
