Baby hit by car after pram rolls down driveway

An 11-month-old baby is in hospital after her pram hurtled down a steep driveway and was hit by a car on the Gold Coast.

Neighbours described hearing hysterical screams coming from the family's home at Pacific Pines around 4.40pm (AEST) on Wednesday.

It's believed the little girl's six-year-old sister was trying to take her for a "walk" when the incident occurred.

"A young female child was pushing the baby in the pram, at which time she appears to have lost control of it," Inspector Karen Shaw told the ABC.

"The pram has rolled down a very steep driveway and collided with a vehicle travelling northbound.

"The driver has stopped and rendered first aid until the arrival of the ambulance and at that time the driver departed the scene."

The forensic crash unit is investigating the incident.
