Motorcyclist dies after fleeing police on Gold Coast

A 34-year-old man has died in hospital after crashing his motorbike.

A motorbike rider who crashed after driving off from a police intercept on the Gold Coast has died in hospital.

Police attempted to pull the man over on Sunset Boulevard in Surfers Paradise around 10.30pm (AEST) on April 20.

The 34-year-old failed to stop for officers, who began searching for the man on foot.


His bike was located on the footpath of a nearby cul-de-sac and the man was found floating in a canal.

Officers pulled his body from the water and commenced first aid.

He was rushed to the Gold Coast University Hospital in a critical condition but died last night.

The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
