FIRST ON 7: Qld policeman's incredible escape from speeding driver

A Queensland policeman had a lucky escape after he was nearly hit by a speeding driver.

7News has obtained exclusive video of one of the closest near-misses ever captured on camera.

It shows a senior constable jumping out of the way as an out-of-control car, travelling more than twice the speed limit, heads towards him in Centenary Suburbs in Brisbane’s west.

The 19-year-old driver, whose girlfriend was a passenger in the car, was tearing along Summers Road at 36 metres a second.

The teenager put the vehicle into a powerslide and straight into the policeman’s motorbike, which the officer had been standing beside just three seconds earlier.

Nearby residents rushed to the scene.

They say they have long complained about drivers who use Summers Road as a racetrack.

The driver was fined 1500 dollars and disqualified from getting behind the wheel until September.

The car, which he had borrowed from his girlfriend’s mother, was immediately impounded for three months.
