Search continues for missing Qld plane

Rescue aircraft have resumed the search for a pilot and plane that have been missing for two days in central Queensland.

Pilot Rob Pavan flew out of Gympie in south-east Queensland on Saturday morning but did not make it to a small airstrip about 90 kilometres west of Gladstone in central Queensland.

Five fixed wing aircraft and 12 helicopters will scour a 6200 square kilometre area on Monday.

A spokeswoman for the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, which is co-ordinating the search, said the terrain made finding the plane difficult.

"It's very mountainous and very forested, so it's quite dense terrain and that makes the search a difficult one," she said.

She said they had received no contact from the lone pilot.

Anyone who saw a light plane northwest of Gympie between 9.30am and 11.20am on Saturday is urged to contact AMSA on 1800 815 257.
