Qld gunman 'had obsession with weapons'

Chilling details have emerged about a Queensland man who police believe shot and killed his father and wounded a family friend, before turning the gun on himself.

The bodies of Tim McNaughton and his 53-year-old father Greg McNaughton were found at The Caves, north of Rockhampton on Tuesday evening.

A third man, Lindsay Hart, was also shot but managed to escape the apparent murder-suicide.

Police say the trio had been on a recreational target shooting trip when it turned to tragedy.

Photos uncovered on Tim's Facebook page appear to reveal his obsession with guns.

The 24-year-old obtained his firearm licence in the Northern Terrirtory in 2012.

He uploaded a photo of it on social media with the caption: ‘Mwahahaha do the(y) *sic realise what they have just done.'

Meanwhile, it has been revealed Mr Hart was forced to dodge bullets as he desperately tried to flee the scene.

The 53-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and a graze from another bullet.

Mr Hart's brother Doug, who owns the property, found out about the incident via a text message, News Corp Australia reports.

"Come get me quick. I'm bleeding to death," Mr Hart wrote.

"I'm just about stuffed. I've lost a lot of blood but come through the neighbour's place."

He then urged his brother to call police and informed him that Tim had shot his father, Doug told The Courier-Mail.

Police found the bodies of the two other men after entering the property in an armoured van.

Tim was an apprentice engineer currently on leave from the organisation's Alice Springs base, it said.

"All of us at the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Queensland Section) are deeply saddened and shocked to hear the news of this terrible tragedy in Rockhampton," chief executive Nino Di Marco said.

Mr Hart is recovering in the Rockhampton Hospital.
