Could you live at a murder site?

How much would you pay to live at the site of one of the most infamous murders in Australia’s recent history?

The asking price is $500, according to the Daily Mail, if you are prepared to live in the same flat in which a man murdered, dismembered and cooked his wife in chemicals last year.

The flat was once home to Marcus Volke and Mayang Prasetyo and was advertised in February, however, its dark past appears to be a sticking point for most potential tenants.

The Daily Mail reports the inner Brisbane property is still available by request, although you will not find it on any rental listings.

The unassuming Tennerife flat became a horrific crime scene in October, 2014, when Volke murdered his trans-gender sex worker wife, cut up her body and attempted to dispose of it by boiling the dismembered pieces in chemicals.

When police showed up at the apartment, Volke, also a sex worker, fled and was discovered shortly afterwards with his throat cut in a nearby industrial bin with a knife at his side, the apparent victim of suicide.

The flat is now the very definition of what the real estate industry calls a “stigmatised property” – a property that has played host to suicide, murder, natural death or even serious illness.

Ms Prasetyo’s murder in October may well have propelled the flat into that category after shocking neighbouring residents and investigators, as well as attracting international media coverage.
