Female police officers assaulted at wild house party

Bottles have been thrown at police and two female officers were assaulted while trying to shut down a wild house party at Ipswich.

More than 20 crews from the Ipswich District were called in to break up a rowdy crowd of young revellers at the property at Henty Drive, Redbank Plains just after 11pm(AEST) on Friday.

"On arrival approximately 120 people on the street are causing a disturbance and several members have attacked the initial police who've attended," said Senior Sergeant, Gareth James.

More than 20 police crews from the Ipswich District were called to shut down the party.

When officers tried to arrest one partygoer, the crowd became aggressive and threw bottles at them, police say.

The two female officers who were assaulted have escaped serious injury.

"They'll obviously have minor bruising. No serious injuries at this stage fortunately," said Senior Sergeant Gareth James.

The police helicopter, Polair Two, was also used to help officers.

"Utilising the spotlight and picking up groups of people and obviously advising us directions for travel," said Senior Sergeant Gareth James.

The road was closed for a short time.

One neighbour said the party was completely out of control and she was scared.

"It sounded like 1,000 people, you know. It was just ... I've never experienced anything like it. I don't want to do it again.

"I just feel terrible because it's just, you know, it is a quiet street and there's an older person across the road who's quite often there on her own. She would have been terrified," said Jean Painter.

Another neighbour said he didn't think it was too bad.

"They're all young kids, you've got to expect it sooner or later I guess," he said.

Four people, aged 14 to 17, have been charged with a number of offences, including public nuisance and assault or obstruct police.
