Gable Tostee to be released on bail

Gold Coast man Gable Tostee is to be released on bail over the alleged murder of a New Zealand tourist.

The 28-year-old will live with his parents and is to abstain from alcohol and stay off Tinder as part of strict conditions of his release.

The accused murderer's parents have provided a $200,000 surety for their son.

The ruling was made this morning following a bail hearing yesterday.

Tostee, was charged in August with murdering 26-year-old Warriena Wright, who plunged to her death from his 14th-floor apartment balcony in Surfers Paradise.

The pair had met hours earlier via the mobile dating application Tinder.

Crown prosecutor Ben Power alleges although Tostee was inside the apartment when Ms Wright fell, he committed a life-threatening act by assaulting her and locking her on his balcony, causing her to fear for her life and try to escape.

Mr Power argued there was a strong risk Tostee would flee with the threat of a mandatory 20-year prison sentence looming.

Defence barrister Soraya Ryan argued the case was weak and its high profile meant Tostee couldn't flee from authorities.
