Baden-Clay offers mistress excuse for 'cheating' on her

'I only had sex with other women to test if our love was real'.

Those were the words uttered by convicted killer Gerard Baden-Clay - not to his wife, but mistress Toni McHugh.

McHugh, who likened herself to Monica Lewinsky in a Women's Weekly interview, said she believed what Baden-Clay had told her.

Baden-Clay offered 'all these reasons' for having sex with other women.

"Like an idiot, I believed it," she said.

"But he’d also told me previously that he’d never been with any other woman besides Allison."

"I was furious but I was still madly in love with him.

"I remember after police told me, Gerard called me from a blocked number and said 'I’m outside your office, I’m in a cab, I have to talk to you' and the first thing he said when I got in the cab was 'are you wearing a wire?'."

Ms McHugh revealed earlier in the year she had been 'putting her head in the sand' about Baden-Clay murdering his wife Allison in April 2012.

The infamous mistress also expressed her sorrow for the Baden-Clay children.

"I need them to know that I’m very, very sorry for what’s happened," she said.

"The future I was planning with Gerard, it actually included them. It included Allison!

"I thought we would all get to the point where we all, you know, shared custody, like adults, and got on."
