Driver handstanding on car denies act was dangerous

A Gold Coast driver who filmed himself performing handstands on the roof of his moving vehicle, has been found guilty of dangerous driving in Southport Magistrates Court.

Ryan Hozaki admitted to performing the stunt on February 11, with the intent of uploading the footage to Facebook page, 'Handstand February'.

However, stunned witnesses called police, who confiscated the 30-year-old's phone and charged him with dangerous driving.

The footage showed Hozaki lifting himself out the window onto the roof of his Toyota five times, while the car was travelling at 15km/hr.

He then performed handstands for four seconds before slipping back into the driver’s seat.

Today in court, Hozaki and his solicitor Colin Greatorix challenged the charge which carries a maximum three-year jail term.

Under cross-examination, eyewitness Kelly Hancock admitted Hozaki looked in control of the situation.

"It was a controlled exercise, in absolute stupidity," he said.

His punishment is yet to be determined.
