Boatie rescued by groomsmen at beach wedding

Two groomsmen have stolen the limelight from the bride at beach wedding at Palm Cove, near Cairns.

They stripped down to their underwear and swam out to rescue a boatie when his dinghy capsized.

The bride and groom weren't the only ones to take the plunge.

Joanne and Aaron Easterbrook were getting photos on their big day when they noticed a boatie in trouble. His dinghy overturned and he was drifting towards rocks.

Groomsmen "Doogs" and "Deani" were all dressed up then they were undressed, as they shouted “He needs help! He needs help!”

“(The rescue) made it pretty entertaining for us, (It was) pretty funny to see but also, wasn't sure how serious it would be,” the bride said.

"There were a lot of jokes about it at the wedding reception the boys being in their underwear and everything.”

The boatie struggled at times as they helped him back to shore. The wedding crasher crashed onto the beach from exhaustion but was otherwise ok.

"The groomsmen ran down and saved the day, they were running down the beach, stripping off their clothes and jumped in the water. They didn't hesitate,” said Glenn Saggers, who sent up a drone and recorded the rescue.

"It was really interesting because it was at a wedding, these kind of things don't normally happen.”

The newlyweds, who've headed off on their honeymoon, now have this picture to add to their album. The best men they could have asked for.
