Man finds message in a bottle washed up on Queensland beach

A message in a bottle has washed up on a far north Queensland beach, thousands of kilometres from where a little girl tossed it into the ocean.

Hopevale resident Dwayne Bowen found the bottle with a letter written in french by a six-year-old Camille, asking for correspondence 'with a young girl like me'.

The message survived a 7000 kilometre voyage from the Windward Island in French Polynesia.

"Hello, My name is Camille. I am 6 and a half years old. I am in CE1. I live in Mo’orea in French Polynesia. I would like correspondence with a young girl like me," the letter translates.

This letter washed up on a far north Queensland beach, all the way from French Polynesia.

Dwayne was riding his four-wheel motorbike and taking his dogs for a run on the beach before finding the mysterious object.

"I went down to the beach with my dogs on the quad bike, took the dogs for a run on the beach and just looking on the beach I found this bottle with a letter in it," Dwayne Bowen told 7News.

"I went home to my partner and we tried reading it but we couldn't translate it so we got someone at work to translate it.

"To find something like that on a beach, we want to get in contact with the people see what experiences they've been through."

Dwayne said he and his partner Emily said they would love to get in contact with the family who sent the letter, but have failed in attempts to contact them so far.

"My partner tried emailing them but it kept bouncing back and we tried a few places but then she got hold of Channel 7," he said.

"It'd be good to get in contact with (the people who sent the bottle) and have a talk to them and show them where we've come from and where we found it."

Emily McGreen, Dwayne's partner, said they were hopeful of solving the mystery since they have two young children of their own.

"I've contacted 7News to help us because I know a little girl will be awaiting our response," she said.
