Platypus killing shocks RSPCA
A platypus that was brutally beaten to death has shocked RSPCA officers in Brisbane's west.
The male mammal was found on a sporting field at Burrows Gully by a University of Queensland veterinarian on Valentine's Day this year.
The brutality used on the placid animal has RSPCA Queensland appealing to the public for information.
Spokesman Michael Beatty told News Limited he is desperate to bring the perpetrators to justice.
"If we could prove animal cruelty the maximum penalty is $100,000 or two years imprisonment. God knows why someone would do something like this," he said.
"As you know platypus are notoriously secret animals so there was no way it would have wandered on to an open area of its own volition."
