A man has died after being suffocated by a home-made helmet, it's been reported.
Police have confirmed the death of a man in the south Auckland suburb of Papatoetoe on Monday was accidental and they're not looking for anyone else in relation to the death.
A police spokeswoman told NZ Newswire the matter has now been referred to the coroner.
She couldn't comment on the circumstances surrounding the death.
However, Fairfax reports it's understood the man was an amateur inventor and he was found wearing a home-made helmet which he was attempting to use to control devices in his home.
It's believed the helmet may have suffocated him.
