A few mobile speed camera vans will be marked as safety traffic cameras as part of a police trial to deter speeding drivers.
The decision was made some time ago as part of a road safety initiative, police say.
A police spokesman told NZ Newswire the white vans will be marked similarly to police vehicles, with blue and yellow livery down the side and the words "traffic safety camera".
The seven vans will be introduced gradually, the spokesman said.
There are no plans at this stage to expand the initiative to all speed camera vans.
Police have also confirmed there are no plans to place signage around fixed speed camera sites.
