The Queensland government has launched a new procurement policy to boost the value of contracts being awarded to indigenous businesses.

Minister for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Partnerships Mark Furner on Thursday announced government spending gods and services supplied by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses would be increased to three per cent by 2020.

Mr Furner said it was the government's intention to beat the target.

The policy will take effect on September 1.
