A Queensland man who was forced to drive to a Gold Coast ATM at knifepoint was offered petrol money by the thief.
The 50-year-old was approached by the armed offender in a caravan park on Broadbeach Nerang Road, Carrara, about 7am on Saturday.
He was threatened with a knife and forced to drive to the nearby Ashmore shopping centre to withdraw cash from his account.
The thief then demanded his driver take him to a petrol station at Ashmore where he offered the victim money "for fuel" before running away with the rest of the cash.
The driver was not injured.
Police are still searching for the offender, who has been described as being aged in his late 30s or early 40s, Caucasian with a very slim build, fair complexion and short hair.
