Five men have been charged after allegedly attacking a 21-year-old man while armed with bats, knives and a hammer in Brisbane's south.
Police say the group approached the man as was getting into his car to leave sporting fields at Acacia Ridge about 4.20pm on Sunday.
They allegedly punched him repeatedly after he got out of his vehicle and tried to walk towards the fields.
Police said bystanders attempted to intervene but the group allegedly produced bats, knives and a hammer from a vehicle.
The 21-year-old was allegedly hit on the side of his head with a weapon.
The onlookers eventually disarmed the group, who fled the scene.
The man was taken to hospital with facial injuries.
Police pulled over a vehicle a short while later, allegedly uncovered a number of weapons and arrested five men.
A 23-year-old Algester man, a 22-year-old Doolandella man, a 25-year-old Redbank Plains man, an 18-year-old Dakabin man and a 19-year-old Stafford man have been charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm, going armed so as to cause fear, and affray.
They are due to appear in Richlands Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
