Qld man charged with murder after manhunt

A second man has been charged with murder after a two-week manhunt following the death of a 43-year-old man near Gympie in Queensland earlier this month.

The 38-year-old Island Plantation man was found more than 700km away at Mackay Harbor on Sunday by police.

Police believe four men were involved in a fight in Maryborough on Sunday, November 1.

Officers found the 43-year-old's body below an embankment northeast of Gympie the following day.

Detectives later charged a 36-year-old man with murder, assault occasioning bodily harm and wilful damage.

A 45-year-old man was also taken into custody after he and the dead man allegedly fled the fight in Maryborough.

Their ute was found abandoned after it crashed into the front gate of a property not far from where the man's body was found.

The 38-year-old man arrested on Sunday was taken to Mackay Watchhouse and charged with murder, assault occasioning bodily harm whilst armed and wilful damage.

He is expected to appear at Mackay Magistrates Court today.
