A man has been charged with killing eight pet chicks in the yard of a southeast Queensland home.

The baby chickens were in a coop at the house in Thornlands, southeast of Brisbane, when the man allegedly went onto the property on Monday, say police.

A 35-year-old Thornlands man has been charged with unlawfully killing the chickens and trespass.

He is expected to appear in the Cleveland Magistrates Court on July 23.
