A fire at an Ipswich drycleaner that forced the evacuation of nearby homes and businesses is being investigated by Queensland police.

The blaze broke out at the Brisbane Street premises about midday on Thursday, prompting police to declare an emergency.

Roads were blocked around the evacuated area at Limestone Street, Brisbane Street, Marsden Parade and Bell Street.

The emergency declaration was lifted at 1.25pm and a crime scene has been set up while investigators determine the cause of the fire.
