Qantas plane circles Sydney for an hour after engine fault


A Qantas flight from Sydney to Bangkok has been forced to land just one hour after departing due to mechanical issues.

QF 23 from Sydney took off at about midday on Friday but was forced to return. It circled Sydney’s skies for an hour.

The plane returned to Sydney “about one hour after taking off due to an engine issue”, a Qantas spokesperson said in a statement.

“The aircraft landed safely and without incident,” the spokesperson said.

“Our engineers are inspecting the aircraft.”

The spokesperson added emergency vehicles were on standby as “normal procedure”.

Passengers on QF 23 will leave on another plane departing for Bangkok later on Friday.
