Province looks to redevelop Charlottetown Curling Club property

The P.E.I. government wants to hear from the public about what should be done with the old Charlottetown Curling Club property.

On Thursday, the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure issued a tender looking for a company to demolish the current building. That work is expected to be completed by the end of this year.

The brick building at 241 Euston St. was used by the curling club until 2020. The Community Outreach Centre moved into the space in June 2021 and stayed until March of this year, when it moved to its current location on Park Street.

Minister of Housing, Land and Communities Rob Lantz said Thursday in a news release residents are interested in having the property redeveloped.

"The possibilities are endless with potential for housing, community space, recreational, childcare and commercial space," he said.

A department spokesperson said no one was available for an interview. In an email, they said the building is being demolished because it was "determined not to be suitable for alternative use, without extensive renovations and upgrades that would be cost prohibitive."

The P.E.I. Housing Corporation will give further details on how the community can provide input this fall.
