Prison officers fatally shoot man at NSW hospital
Prison officers have shot and killed a man who was trying to escape while being treated at a NSW hospital.
Police were called to Lismore Base Hospital at 7.30pm on Friday following reports of a shooting, a NSW Police spokesman said.
A corrective services NSW spokeswoman said the male inmate assaulted one of the two Corrective Services officers who were accompanying him to the hospital before trying to escape.
“It’s alleged the inmate was shot in the torso after failing to respond to two warning shots fired by one of the officers,” the spokeswoman said.
“The inmate received immediate treatment by paramedics, and died about two hours later.”
Corrective Services NSW and NSW Police are investigating the incident.
