Princess Eugenie expecting first baby with Jack Brooksbank
Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank are expecting their first child together.
A statement released by Buckingham Palace read: “Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are very pleased to announce that they are expecting a baby in early 2021.
“The Duke of York and Sarah, Duchess of York, Mr and Mrs George Brooksbank, The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh are delighted with the news.”
The 30-year-old also took to her Instagram page to share an adorable photo of a pair of baby teddy slippers alongside the caption: “Jack and I are so excited for early 2021....”
This will be Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s first grandchild, with Fergie previously opening up when the BBC asked her what kind of grandmother she would be.
“Excellent – I used to write children’s books, and I am a child, I haven’t grown up,” she replied.
The royal baby will be eleventh in line to the throne when it makes its arrival in 2021, pushing the Queen’s son, Prince Edward, into 12th place.
Royal author Phil Dampier told New Idea that Eugenie’s baby joy will be just what the royal family needs.
"The Queen and Prince Philip will be delighted to have yet another great grandchild and it would be the perfect present next year for Philip's 100th birthday,” he said.
"It's been a rotten year for Eugenie what with the Epstein scandal engulfing her father Prince Andrew so this is the best tonic for the whole family.”
Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank married in St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle in October 2018, a few months after Prince Harry married Meghan Markle at the same venue.
The princess works full time in the art world. Although she is not a working royal she is regularly seen at royal events, like Trooping the Colour and Royal Ascot, and also spends Christmas with the Queen at Sandringham.
It’s been a tough few months for Eugenie and her husband, after Jack’s 71-year-old father was diagnosed with the coronavirus in April.
"It’s a traumatic time for Jack and Eugenie... George has been very sick but the whole family has been rallying round to help,” a source told the Daily Mail at the time.
"They are hugely grateful for the excellent care that he has been receiving. They are thinking of all the other families who are being similarly affected at this time."
Thankfully, George is now recovering well, telling the Telegraph: "I’m walking around at the moment on one stick and I hope to get free of that next week. My breathing is back to normal and I count myself extremely lucky."
Princess Eugenie’s sister, Princess Beatrice, was also affected by the coronavirus, with her wedding plans thrown into disarray.
Beatrice and her fiancé, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, were supposed to be walking down the aisle to say ‘I do’ on May 29th, however, they got their day in the end, marrying at the end of July in All Saints Chapel in Windsor.
