Princess Anne Makes Startling Confession About Incident That Left Her Hospitalized

Princess Anne recently shared new insight into the incident last year that sent her to the hospital.

The 74-year-old royal told the Press Association (PA) during a brief trip to South Africa this week that she remembers “nothing” from the June 2024 incident. The BBC published her new comments about her injuries in an article on Friday, Jan. 24.

On June 24, 2024, Buckingham Palace released a statement about the incident involving King Charles III’s younger sister. The princess “sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate” on June 23, the palace explained. She was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol, England, “as a precautionary measure for observation,” though palace officials said she was “expected to make a full and swift recovery.”

Doctors initially thought that the injuries sustained by the daughter of the late Queen Elizabeth II were possibly caused by a horse’s legs or head, The Associated Press reported at the time. The exact circumstances surrounding Anne’s injuries remain unknown, though the princess did recover quickly as predicted and has made several public appearances in the seven months since her hospitalization.

“I know where I thought I was going and that was to go to the chickens,” Anne said of the incident, adding that stopping by to see the estate’s chickens was part of her “regular visit” and that she didn’t “have any idea what I was doing in the field, because I never normally went that way.”

The princess also told PA reporters that she believed the incident had “nothing to do with horses.” Despite the mystery surrounding the events that led to her five-night stay at Southmead Hospital, Anne was positive as she reflected on what the experience helped her realize.

“You are sharply reminded that every day is a bonus really,” she said.
