Sharing a solo black and white shot of Middleton to Instagram, the Prince of Wales wrote, "To the most incredible wife and mother. The strength you've shown over the last year has been remarkable."
At the start of 2024, Middleton found herself at the center of nonstop media attention. After the royal family announced that the princess was undergoing a planned abdominal surgery, fans were still suspicious when Middleton didn't make a public appearance for months.
After weeks of concerns and conspiracy theories running rampant on the internet over her whereabouts and wellbeing—as well as a photoshop incident that caused even more confusion—Middleton eventually addressed the public in a video message in March 2024 to set the record straight and announce that she had been diagnosed with cancer.
At the time, Middleton revealed she was undergoing chemotherapy treatments, but further details about her treatment and the specific form of cancer she was battling were kept private.
She later announced in September 2024 that she had completed her chemotherapy treatments and was officially "cancer free."
While celebrating Middleton's strength over the past year in his birthday tribute to his wife, William said that he, along with the couple's three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, are "so proud" of what she's been able to overcome.
"Happy Birthday, Catherine," William, 42, concluded in the post. "We love you. W."
