Prince Philip crash victim calls for charges against Duke

The mother-of-two who broke her wrist during a car crash involving Prince Philip says she wants to see the Duke of Edinburgh charged.

Emma Fairweather, 46, has questioned why she has not received any official support and why police are yet to contact her asking for a statement about the crash that saw his Land Rover roll on its side near the royal’s Sandringham estate in eastern England.

“There needs to be a decision as to whether Prince Philip and I are from the same walk of life here or not,” she told ITV’s This Morning program.

“I feel that his treatment has not been the same as mine.”

When asked by presenter Holly Willoughby if the 97-year-old should be prosecuted for the crash, Ms Fairweather responded “absolutely”.

She also said that she had been shocked to see that Prince Philip was driving again over the weekend and had been pictured without a seatbelt.

“Upset, very upset, of course accidents happen, but there needs to then be a period of reflection on what could be done to prevent the same thing happening again,” she responded.

“It’s highly insensitive and inconsiderate towards me and everyone involved.”

British media on Saturday published a photograph showing the Duke driving a new Land Rover near the royal residence at Sandringham.

Norfolk Police said “suitable words of advice have been given to the driver.”

Buckingham Palace didn’t comment on the images, however calls for Prince Philip to relinquish his licence are now mounting.

There is no upper age limit for licensing drivers in Britain, although drivers over 70 are required to renew their licenses every three years and tell authorities about any medical conditions that might raise safety issues.

Philip passed a vision test Saturday as part of the investigation into the accident.
