Harry and Meghan's surprise appearance after quitting royal life

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made their first appearance together following the huge announcements they will not be returning as working members of the royal family and that they're expecting their second child.

Buckingham Palace confirmed last week the couple will not return to the royal family with the pair hitting back at the Queen after she suggested a "life of public service" isn't compatible with the couple's new careers in the US.

The couple quickly released their own statement, arguing "service is universal".

Now, the pair has made a surprise appearance at Spotify's Stream On event on Monday.

Harry and Meghan were filmed on their couch in their Santa Barbara home to chat about Archewell Audio, their production company that will create podcasts exclusively for Spotify.

The song 'Electric Love' by Børns plays as Meghan says: "We're using podcasting to drive powerful conversations..."

Harry continues: "...that inspire, challenge and educate."

"We created Archewell Audio to make sure that we can elevate voices that maybe aren't being heard and hear people's stories," Meghan says.

Harry adds: "And the biggest part of this is to create this community of where you can share, that will encourage everybody else to then share their own vulnerabilities within that safe space."

It comes as the pair's new interview with Oprah Winfrey may have to be re-edited or even re-shot due to the announcement of their permanent departure from the royal family being made permanent.

Harry and Meghan are thought to be in shock after the Queen stripped them of their remaining royal and sporting patronages following the interview.

"When the Duke and Duchess spoke, it was never envisaged they would have their patronages taken away," a source told The Mirror. "They didn't see it coming and spoke as though they still had roles to play.

"Now, however, other than their titles, they are to have no role in royal life - a point producers know was not discussed when Winfrey spoke to them. Neither the Sussexes nor the TV crew saw the fallout of their interview leading to this. Harry and Meghan thought they would retain their roles. But things have significantly changed for them since they eagerly sat for Winfrey and poured their hearts out."

With the interview set to air on Sunday March 7, a source issued a warning to the Daily Mail that the royals may want to consider that a good "time to hide behind the sofa at the palace".

The Queen has decided to beat Harry and Meghan to the airwaves and will address the nation on TV with Prince Charles and Prince William only hours before the Sussexes interview will air.

With the annual Commonwealth Service cancelled for the first time in nearly half a century thanks to Covid-19, the Queen will instead share her annual message 24 hours earlier on March 7 in a speech pre-recorded at Windsor Castle.

The show will feature Prince Charles and Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince William and Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, and Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, who will share their royal perspectives on the importance of Britain's Commonwealth links.

The Commonwealth Service holds particular significance as it was when Harry and Meghan bowed out as working royals and were last seen in public with the Queen, Prince Charles and Prince Harry.
