Prince Harry and Meghan Markle eye up Australian beach house

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle may be looking to follow in Princess Diana's footsteps and get themselves an Australia beach hideaway.

According to Woman's Day's late royal expert, Judy Wade, claimed that before Prince Charles announced his engagement to Diana, she secretly holidayed in Australia to take some time to decide if she wanted to be part of the royal family.

Diana stayed at her mum Frances Shand Kydd's secret Mollymook beach house and she spent her time there over the new year in 1981 surfing, swimming and soul-searching on her own in total privacy.

In her book Diana: The Intimate Portrait, Judy said: "Frances rented a beach house tucked away among tall gum trees overlooking the beach."

The beach house was described as a "modern, dark-stained timber beach house... situated at the end of a winding dirt track, which made it invisible from the road".

Frances had a cattle property in Yass and would "enjoy a cool drink on the wooden, elevated deck facing the sea" with Diana as they "discussed the enormity of Prince Charles' proposal and the impact on all their lives".

As Prince Harry and his wife Meghan continues to be scrutinised for their every move, reports suggest Diana’s son is considering finding the same beach house and having it be his own hideaway.

"Harry has a soft spot for Australia and given that his mum spent such precious private time here, it's no surprise he'd feel a calling to it and will want to search out what sounds like was once his mum's spiritual home,” a source told the magazine.

"Meghan was very shocked at first – and she wasn't impressed that he went behind her back and did it – but she too would love to get her hands on something that was Diana's... even if it makes William furious!"

It comes after the couple's announcement they've signed a $130 million mega-deal with Netflix to produce documentaries.

A royal source has revealed the deal came as a surprise to the Queen who was kept in the dark about the very public move by the former senior royals, discovering the turn of events along with the rest of the world, second hand.

On the heels of the Queen being kept in the dark, is the news that the majority of the UK will be as well, with a jaw-dropping survey revealing well over half of Brits are not remotely interested in watching the duo’s work with the streaming giant.

It seems while the mammoth subscription service might command a huge viewer base of 193 million, it doesn’t necessarily dictate what they watch.

YouGov polled more than 2,700 British adults about how interested they were in watching the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s content, and 64 per cent said they were not interested at all.

The poll suggests Harry and Meghan are going to have an uphill battle in getting people to tune into their programming, with only 3 per cent of UK respondents saying they are ‘very interested’.
