Harry and Meghan 'stabbing royals in the back', former butler claims

He’s never been shy to voice his opinions on the royal family and now Princess Diana’s former butler has claimed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are “stabbing” the royals “in the back”.

Paul Burrell’s comments come just after it was revealed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have become “impact partners” with financial services company Ethic.

The couple are also joining the asset management firm as investors after being introduced by friends because they wanted to find someone that would put their money with someone whose values “aligned” with theirs.

Prince Harry is also set to release a book and the couple have a deal with streaming giant Netflix.

Speaking in an interview with Closer magazine, Paul said: "Part of the royal fascination and popularity is that no one knows what really goes on behind closed doors. And so when Harry and Meghan share a glimpse into that life, it’s shocking and scandalous and people love to hear it. It’s juicy gossip and it’s what makes them interesting.

"They have escaped the royals and found their freedom, but in reality, they’ll always be chained down by the fact that being royal is the only thing that makes them interesting. And in playing on these connections, they are stabbing Harry’s family in the back and deepening the rift.”

Paul went on to say he believes Prince Harry’s upcoming will be scandalous as that’s what publishers will be looking for.

The former butler’s comments also come just after rumours around the couple’s return to the UK were smashed.

It has been thought Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would return to London to christen their daughter, Lilbet, who was born on June 4, however, it’s now believed they will have the ceremony in California instead.

"There will not be a christening in the UK. It is not happening," a palace insider told The Telegraph UK.

According to the publication, it is more 'likely' Lilibet could be baptised into the Episcopal Church of the US, which is member church of the worldwide Anglican Communion.

Prince Harry flew back to the UK in July to attend the unveiling of his late mother, Princess Diana’s statue in the gardens of Kensington Palace.

While Harry looked to be in great spirits, it was later claimed the prince shared a glass of champagne with his brother, Prince William, before leaving 20 minutes later for the airport.
