Harry and Meghan refuse to be ‘controlled’ by Prince William

It’s been a few months now since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘split’ from Prince William and Kate Middleton and waved goodbye to their Kensington Palace home.

Since then, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have moved to Frogmore Cottage and welcomed their first son together, and distance seemed to have mended their reported rift with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

However, today it was revealed that the 37-year-old former Suits actress and 34-year-old Prince Harry have officially parted ways with the couples’ joint charity, the Royal Foundation.

And according to royal commentator, Duncan Larcombe, it’s all because the Sussexes have no interest in being ‘controlled’ by Prince William.

“It does seem odd. Why separate when you are both backing the same causes? Whether this is a sign of a rift, this is certainly a sign of a division,” he told The Sun.

“It is clear that Meghan and Harry were initially prepared to slot in under the wing of William and Kate but that’s not how they feel a year on.”

Royal feud

It’s not the first time the Sussexes have tried to break free from the Cambridges, just after it was announced in March that they would split their royal households, it was also revealed that Harry and Meghan’s whole communications team would be based out of Buckingham Palace instead of Kensington Palace.

But it’s no secret that things with the ‘Fab Four’ haven’t exactly been plain-sailing over the past year.

Rumours of a supposed feud between the couples emerged towards the end of 2018, just before the royals were due to step out together at Sandringham for Christmas Day.

At the beginning, it was believed the rift began when Meghan ‘spoke rudely’ to royal staff and left Kate in tears at a flower girl dress fitting for Princess Charlotte.

But over the course of 2019, it soon became apparent that things were tense between Harry and William, not the duchesses.

Prince William and Prince Harry at loggerheads

There have been claims that things between William and Harry haven’t been the same since he married Meghan on May 19th 2018.

In a documentary on Channel 5 in the UK, Princesses At War, royal expert Katie Nicholl weighed in on the moment William confronted Harry about his relationship with Meghan.

“William was quite concerned that the relationship had moved so quickly,” she explained.

She went on to say that William, was “the only person close enough” to Harry to share his worries, and claimed the 36-year-old asked his brother if he was “sure” about going forward with the wedding.

Whilst William’s concerns were simply loving brotherly concern on his part, the royal expert explained the “advice just riled Harry”.

The alleged rift couldn’t have been more evident on Easter Sunday, when Harry was caught on camera trying to avoid standing next to William outside St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.

Baby Archie bringing the family together

But just after the birth of Archie, William showed there was no hard feelings by gushing about his nephew to the media.

According to royal expert, Katie Nicholl, the arrival of the cute baby has helped to mend the brothers’ relationship.

"It's absolutely the case that the brothers did fall out," Nicholl said.

"I was told by a very senior royal source that actually they weren't talking to each other at one point.

“I certainly think now that Archie is here, it has probably really helped to improve the relationship. William is over-the-moon that his brother is a dad."
