The Prince’s ski trip was likely at the couple’s ski chalet in Switzerland, the existence of which caused quite a stir earlier in the year.

Prince Frederik revealed the pair owned a secret private ski lodge in Verbier, Switzerland - one of the world's most exclusive ski resorts - earlier this year.

The Prince was explaining that Mary would temporarily relocate to the Swiss home for a 12-week stint while her four children attend boarding school.

Prince Christian, 14, Princess Isabella, 12, and nine-year-old twins Princess Josephine and Prince Vincent have paused their studies at Tranegårdsskolen school in Denmark to enrol at the Lemania-Verbier International School in the Swiss Alps.

‘Secret’ home a lucrative renter

The property was purchased over a decade ago and rented out at a cool $14,000 a week (65,400 Kroner) on Airbnb according to Herald Sun, when they were not using it.

The revelation caused outcry from Denmark’s parliament, particularly from the Danish far-left parliamentarian party Enhedslisten, that hit out at the couple for keeping this home a secret.

“I was very surprised when I found out that the family does not just have such a house, they have had such a house for 10 years, without any ordinary Danes knowing about it,” Member of Parliament Mai Villadsen told Danish media.

“We are the ones who pay the money so we must know about the house.”

Conservative member of parliament Birgitte Bergman, however, was of a different opinion, saying she didn’t see “anything wrong” with the pair owning the Swiss home.

Mary and Frederik have weathered some uncharacteristic drama over the past 12 months.

In 2019, rumours of marital unrest dogged the couple as they stepped up their royal duties. ready to take of Queen Margrethe’s role when the time comes.
