'Pretty crazy': Teacher dragged down street by thieves trying to steal her car

A Queensland teacher has been dragged down her own street while trying to stop burglars from stealing her car.

The 55-year-old teacher from Sinnamon Park, in Brisbane’s south west, only realised she was being robbed when an intruder woke her in bed at 4am with a torch shining in her face.

“There was a small torch shone in my face, I jumped up, I screamed really loudly, and said ‘get out!’,” the woman said.

She then ran out to discover her car was gone.

Neighbours heard the screams and also ran out to see what was happening.

They were waiting for police to arrive when a car pulled into the cul-de-sac.

“I initially thought it was police, I was still on hold to triple-zero, but then it became clear it was actually her car,” neighbour Lizelle said.

The blue Mitsubishi was slowly moving up the street, perhaps to pick up a second person.

This time around, the victim was not keen on the thieves getting away with her car.

“I had my hands on the bonnet and then it kept coming so I was going backwards,” the woman said.

She held on as the intruder swerved and she got pulled along as the car sped off, leaving her bruised and bloodied.

She says her determination to stop the thieves was “pretty crazy when you think about it now.”

Her two phones, laptop, wallet and a school bag full of student assignments were stolen.

Remarkably, her two guard dogs, Rosie and Missy, didn’t make a sound during the incident.

“Usually Rosie barks at everything but, she’s 12 so must be in retirement,” the woman said.

The offenders left a clue behind – a single sock, which the victim thinks may have been used to cover fingerprints.
