Pregnant Victorian woman dies after car fall but still delivers baby

A pregnant woman who was rushed to hospital after falling from a moving car in Melbourne’s northwestern suburbs has died just hours after giving birth.

It's believed a man was threatening to assault the 32-year-old woman at a home in Kiwi Retreat just before 1pm.

The incident continued in a car before the woman fell out onto the road while the car was driving around a corner, leaving her with life-threatening injuries, Victorian police said.

The woman was airlifted to Royal Melbourne Hospital after the incident and delivered her baby via c-section on Saturday, dying shortly after.

The baby remains in hospital in a critical condition.

A 35-year-old Keilor Downs man has since been arrested and is currently assisting police with investigations.
