Powerful 6.6 magnitude earthquake strikes off Vanuatu


A 6.6 magnitude earthquake has struck off Vanuatu.

The earthquake hit north of the island of Toga at about 7am local time Wednesday morning, according to Geosciences Australia.

However, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center reported the quake was a magnitude of 6.8.

The centre advised “no action is required” as there’s no tsunami threat.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison is visiting Vanuatu on Wednesday as part of a Pacific Islands tour.
