Powerball draw 1317: One lucky Aussie wins entire $80m jackpot

The winning Powerball numbers have been drawn for Thursday night's $80 million draw - and one lucky Australian has scooped the entire jackpot.

Tonight's mega jackpot is the equal biggest prize on offer this year. The incredible win comes after five consecutive weeks of no division one wins.

The lucky numbers for draw 1317 were 17, 10, 4, 26, 19, 23 and 21, with Powerball number 7.

It’s expected that one-in-four Australians had an entry on tonight's draw - which marks the eighth time in the game’s 25-year history that a jackpot of this size has been up for grabs.

The single winner has not only become the biggest Australian lottery winner of 2021, but they have also been crowned the third-biggest Lotto winner in Australian history.

The identity of the winner is not known, but according to The Lott website, the ticket was not purchased in NSW or the ACT.

Last jackpot shocked Queensland winners

The last big Powerball win was on July 1 and was welcome news for a group of 10 Townsville residents whose syndicate had scored them $60 million.

In disbelief, the man and his wife continued to question whether the call from The Lott officials was real.

"I think someone must be pulling my leg," he said, revealing he'd probably retire if true.

'Most profitable' lottery numbers revealed

According to Oz Lotteries, some numbers are “statistically more profitable than others” when they win.

The simple reason for this being that some numbers are less popular than others, so you’re less likely to have to share your winnings and will take home a larger dividend.

From their data, Oz Lotteries were able to reveal the most profitable numbers, or the numbers that resulted in larger dividends. These numbers include: 31, 26, 4, 13, 33, 27 and 18.

Meanwhile, the least profitable numbers, or the numbers with the smallest prizes, include 9, 14, 24, 25, 34, 15 and 29.
