Winner of eye-watering $60 million Powerball jackpot revealed

A Queensland woman has scooped an eye-watering $60 million in Thursday night’s Powerball draw.

The Sunshine Coast local, who lives in Caloundra, was the only winner of the Division One prize and was lost for words when contacted by officials late on Thursday.

“It’s crazy! I still just can’t believe it. I’m speechless. I just don’t know what to say!” she exclaimed.

“I’m going to have to make sure this isn’t some weird dream.”

The winner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she wanted to double check her numbers just to make sure it wasn’t a mistake.

And the big question most winners face after a gargantuan win is whether or not they’ll be returning to work.

For this particular winner, it appeared an easy decision.

“I’ll probably be retiring early. I don’t think I’ll go back to work that’s for sure!”

She said she will now sit down and plan how she is going to spend the money.

The lucky winner purchased her ticket, which was her routine 8 game, $9.70 QuickPick entry, from her local store Caloundra Newsagency.

The winning numbers in the draw were 26, 3, 11, 2, 15, 1 and 35. The Powerball number was 17.

It is the latest in a string of recent big wins following a change to the Powerball format in April 2018 which meant the jackpot now has a bigger chance of rolling over each week.

In September last year, three people shared a record $150 million Powerball jackpot.
