Popular kombucha sold at Aldi recalled over lid danger

A popular brand of kombucha sold at Aldi stores has been recalled over fears the cap could “pop open” and cause injury.

Queensland Health issued the recall on Friday for the Organic Kombucha Raspberry Lemon in 330ml and Lemon Lime and Bitters in both 330ml and 750ml, saying the product could injure consumers.

“The recall is due to the potential presence of high levels of pressure which may cause the cap to pop open,” Queensland Health said in a statement.

“Consumers should not open or consume these products and dispose of them carefully.

“Please visit the Aldi store from which you purchased the products for a full cash refund.”

Kombucha is traditionally made by fermenting sweetened tea and has increased in popularity due to its low sugar content and reported health benefits.

The drink contains a live culture of bacteria and yeast, which can act as a probiotic for consumers.
