Police seek volunteers to get drunk for them; many respond

A police department has been inundated with responses after asking residents to get drunk so officers could practise administering sobriety tests.

The Kutztown Police Department in Pennsylvania wrote on Facebook on Thursday it was seeking just three volunteers to practise DUI traffic stops.

“Alcohol will be provided; however, you will not receive compensation for your time,” it wrote.

It added the participants needed to be in “good health”, between 25-40 years old with no history of drug or alcohol abuse, clean criminal history, “be willing to drink hard liquor to the point of inebriation”, sign a waiver and have a responsible person look after them after the training.

While it was for an unpaid police exercise, the department was soon hammered with more than 1,000 responses.

“Can I bring my Pringle’s can?” one woman wrote.

One man wrote he’s “awaited this day”.

“My destiny has arrived,” he added.

Another woman asked if there would be a “spectator area”.

The department later thanked everyone for their interested adding the successful applicants would be contacted to take part on April 4.
